Later:
Well it wasn't so bad after all...we left in good time ...because then we could get to the next place in time for the end of the cricket :-)
It was an interesting drive through small villages and towns.
I was quite excited to see a mongoose very close up... another first for me. I hadn't realised they were so big! So no lions but lizards and frogs outside the room, deer, mongoose, and of course the crocodile.
We arrived at our hotel in Diu just before lunch and in plenty of time to watch what was a riveting cricket game... says she who usually isn't really much interested in cricket! The hotel doesn't normally serve food in the rooms but it seems they may have made an exception for us today so we could watch the cricket. Lunch was nice with many different dishes from what we've been used to, no doubt because of the Portuguese influence and the fact it's a fishing town. Now we're out of Gujarat we can have chicken and eggs again.
After the tension of the cricket match it was time for a walk along the beach. It's a long beach and there were only people on a very small part of it. I think we're very much at the end of the season now. There were quite a few water sports on offer and We also saw a group of school kids enjoying the water so we watched them for a while. The girls were all fully clothed and stuck very much together, holding hands as they ventured further out into what was actually very shallow water.
The boys seemed a bit braver.
The water looks very dirty in the photos but it's just sand being churned up in it. The beach is quite clean. The temperature was in the mid 30's but it never seems as hot here as a lower temperature in New Zealand does and I can spend all day in the sun without any burning at all.
We had our usual after dinner walk and Tarun found me a nice little snake on the side of the road. Fortunately it was dead but it left me wondering how many more of them there are around here. I actually think I felt more comfortable with the crocodile in our last place. Definitely no need to go to a zoo when you 're in India.... it's all around you...and free!!
fantastic Sue, these last two posts for me were another good read. I could happily eat in India, the vegetarian options would be amazing!. Glad you and Tarun, in particular :-) got to see what has to be one of the most amazing cricket games. I wonder where Tarun will park himself for tomorrow nights semi final !!!
